Choose Green Muscatine is a Green-e® Energy Certified renewable energy program from Muscatine Power and Water. Through it, YOU have the buying power to choose. You can purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to cover all or a portion of the electricity used by your company. By participating in Choose Green, you’re choosing to be a part of sustainable changes by increasing the demand for renewable energy.

Obstacles that businesses looking at renewable energy solutions may face can be:

  • Upfront material and installation costs
  • Additional structural improvements, equipment repairs and ongoing maintenance
  • Potentially “negative” curb appeal
  • Building orientation not conducive, or neighboring structures/landscaping interfering with solar installations
  • Valuable real estate needed for installations

I’m a Small Business (Commercial I) Customer
I’m a Commercial II or Industrial I and II Business

How Does It Work?

For Small Businesses (Commercial I) Customers:

Choose Green Muscatine offers a completely “hands-off” approach for Commercial I customers to meet renewable energy or sustainability goals. There’s nothing to build, maintain, or set-up on site to be a part of this program. Choose Green Muscatine participants help ensure we’re bringing new, green energy into our energy pool with no up-front costs and a low unit cost.

Wind turbines at our South Fork Wind Farm provide Green-e® Energy Certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for every 1,000 kWh of renewable energy produced. Each REC is serialized, independently recorded, and tracked through Midwest Renewable Energy Tracking System (M-RETS).

You can choose the electricity used for a portion or all of your organization’s electrical consumption when deciding how many RECs you would like to purchase. We will retire an equivalent number of RECs based on your organization’s participation in the Choose Green Muscatine program.

A certificate indicating the number of RECs that were retired on your company’s behalf will be provided to verify your support and achievement in sustaining renewable energy. The RECs are yours to promote as you see fit and can no longer be claimed or marketed by anyone else, including MPW.

Testimonial: “Choose Green Muscatine” Renewable Energy Certificates Benefits a Local Company

*Choose Green Muscatine is a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) product and does not contain electricity.  A REC represents the environmental benefits of 1 megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable energy that can be paired with electricity. For more information, see www.green-e.org/rec.

    Choose Green Business Program

For Commercial II and Industrial I and II Business Customers

For large customers who want to make a direct investment in renewable energy and have sustainable business goals, our Choose Green Business program allows you to directly purchase renewable energy and receive Renewable Energy Credits (REC) from the MPW renewable portfolio**. Industrial and Commercial II customers have expressed interest in additional local renewable energy options to satisfy their corporate sustainability goals. In fact, several are already purchasing RECs generated by our South Fork Wind Farm.

As part of our Powering the Future strategic initiative, we’re investigating an initial 30 MW solar farm installation that will be located at the Grandview Avenue Well Field, referred to as “MPW Solar – Phase 1”. Large business customers can purchase renewable energy and receive RECs with no up-front investment, just a small “adder” estimated between 0.5¢ and 1.0¢ per kWh. The adder is intended to cover the forecasted cost premium associated with these projects. Negotiated project costs will determine the final adder rate.

How Fast We Grow Depends On You

Whether it’s your full plant or a targeted product line, only you can determine how much of your annual electrical consumption you’d like to dedicate to local renewable energy. Availability is limited for this program but participation from local industries is necessary to realize this project.

View our brochure for more information and details on our Choose Green Business Program for Commercial II and Industrial I and II customers, or contact Paul Burback at 563-262-3423.

Be a Renewable Energy Leader!

Choose Green is an easy, affordable and completely customizable solution to help you meet renewable energy and sustainability goals through renewable energy certificates. When your company participates, you become a progressive, renewable energy leader and reduce the demand for non-renewable forms of energy. Choose Green helps conserve more natural resources and reduces environmental impact.

*Choose Green Muscatine is a Green-e® Energy Certified product, which meets all requirements of the Green-e® Energy program and that is sold or transacted by an entity contractually allowed to do so by Center for Resource Solutions.  The Green-e® Energy certifies three products types: REC products, electricity products sold in deregulated markets, and electricity products sold in regulated non-competitive markets.

**REC’s available for purchase will be based on MPW’s production forecasts. MPW offers no production guarantees. Customer’s actual REC volume will be determined based on their pro-rated share of MPW facility’s annual production.
Pricing will be the average of the bid and offer price for the upcoming year with a 10% discount applied. Annual REC purchases will appear on the customer’s monthly bill noting the volume and cost of renewable energy.
RECs will be retired as received by MPW; a 3-month delay between REC production and receipt of REC’s is not uncommon.
Renewable Energy Certificates are nonrefundable.
