MP&W OUT TO WIN STATE WATER TOWER CONTEST
Muscatine Power and Water has entered the state-sponsored “It’s in the Water” contest which will award one Iowa community with a custom water tower graphic wrap, designed by an Iowa artist. MP&W submitted a required video presentation which will be subject to a public online voting October 1 thru October 11. Residents are encouraged to vote early and often.
“We’re in it to win it,” said Erika Cox, Director of Customer and Technology Experience, “and we need your VOTE! This is a popular vote contest and the community whose video gets the most votes will win.”
Cox noted that the Utility was already planning to repaint its water tower located at Hwy 61 and Bidwell Road in 2020 and when Governor Reynolds announced this contest at the Iowa State Fair, “we knew we wanted to take a shot at winning the custom design and wrap.”
“Besides the cost savings, winning the contest would give us just one more opportunity to put Muscatine in the statewide spotlight and expose our city to thousands of people via the Internet,” Cox concluded.
Votes from anyone with a Facebook account will be accepted — local people, friends, family, and acquaintances anywhere. If you don’t have a Facebook account, now may be a great time to start. Cox also reminded that because it’s not limited to local residents, everyone is encouraged to share the links with friends and family and ask them to vote for Muscatine.
The statewide online competition seeks to promote the importance of water within communities as well as community pride and is authorized by the Iowa Finance Authority. The winning city will receive the custom water tower wrap, designed by Iowa artist Laura Palmer, who happens to be a former resident of Muscatine!
The Iowa Finance Authority has set up a special website where Facebook users may vote for their favorite community video. The direct link to Muscatine’s video is https://www.mpw.org/votenow and users may vote once per every 24 hours from October 1 (at 8 a.m. CT) through October 11 (at 5 p.m. CT), with the winner announced the week of October 14. This is a pure popular vote with the highest number of votes winning the contest. Check mpw.org or facebook.com/MPWUtility for updates.
The production of the video was aided by dozens of community residents, businesses and organizations, including the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Convention and Visitors Bureau, City of Muscatine, National Pearl Button Museum and Muscatine County Conservation. “We loved getting community members involved and thank them for being a part of showcasing our great local water, water features, and community,” concluded Cox.
The theme of the video is “Immerse Yourself in Muscatine”. Every vote counts so the public is encouraged to not only vote every day, but to also like and share and posts or websites related to the contest.
