Continuing its commitment to environmental stewardship and clean technology, HNI Corporation has installed four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Muscatine: two at the company’s global headquarters (600 E. 2nd St.) and two at its Allsteel headquarters (2210 2nd Ave.). Each of the Level 2 EV stations can charge a pair of cars simultaneously, adding a total of eight charging spots.

“HNI’s EV investment supports not only employee ownership of electric vehicles, but also the adoption of electric vehicles in Muscatine and eastern Iowa,” said Roy Green, HNI’s corporate social responsibility manager.  Available to HNI members during work hours and to the public at all other times, the EV stations are visible through the EV Connect App, which allows station users to access and securely pay for EV charging.

The four new charging stations brings HNI’s total EV stations to six, with the first two installed in October 2018 at the company’s Wayland, New York, facility.

Interest in electric vehicles has grown in the Muscatine area, with utility provider Muscatine Power and Water (MPW) recently creating an Electric Vehicle Stakeholder group. Comprised of local industry and business representatives, the group helps guide MPW’s support of EV ownership and plans for publicly accessible charging stations.

Gage Huston, MPW’s General Manager, says it is an exciting time for the Utility. “The demand for electric vehicles will continue to grow as interest in clean technology grows,” he explains. “We are thrilled to see HNI lead the charge on EV adoption through their corporate sustainability initiatives.”

MPW not only has purchased its first EV vehicle for Utility use, but also will install an EV charging station this summer at its business office at 3205 Cedar St. in Muscatine.
