MP&W Launches Fiber Phone Services
At the monthly Muscatine Board of Water, Electric and Communications Trustees meeting, General Manager Sal LoBianco advised the Trustees that MP&W had completed testing of its new phone service and officially launched the product April 23, 2018.
“Many customers appreciate the fact that their electric, water, TV and Internet services are provided by a local, community-owned, not-for-profit company and telephone is a natural extension of those existing services. With the fiber build-out and technological advances in telephony, the timing is perfect for us to give our customers a truly local choice for phone service,” noted LoBianco.
Phone service is currently available only for residential users on MP&W’s fiber system and will be rolled out to small business customers shortly. In discussing the product with the Trustees, Erika Cox, Director of Employee and Community Relations concluded, “People will be surprised at how affordable the new phone service is from our base plan to our plan with multiple features and long-distance minutes. Customers can add the service for under ten dollars a month to start, and phone service is also eligible for bundle discounts with TV and Internet service.”
In other news, the Board:
- Awarded the contract for the 69KV Duct Bank Construction and Conduit Installation for Linn Street Project to Triple B Construction, of Wilton, for a total of $144,738.50. The Linn Street Project is a part of the multi-phase beautification process of the Mississippi Drive corridor. As a part of this beautification project, the City has requested that MP&W convert all overhead facilities along the project corridor to underground. The Mississippi Drive Revitalization Project will promote tourism and moving overhead lines to underground will provide a more scenic view of the river.
- Awarded TMI Coatings, Inc., of St. Paul, Minnesota, the contract for the Round Reservoir Rehabilitation Project, for a total of $407,500. The two 1.5 MG round reservoirs at West Hill were inspected and found to be structurally sound but in need of rehabilitation. Several repairs will take place including cleaning and recoating the interior and exterior of both tanks, installing liners, repairing cracks, and recoating the domes.
