Solar Muscatine
Think Globally. Act Locally. Touch the Future.
Iowa imports 97% of the fuel it uses to produce electricity and fuel our automobiles. Coal, natural gas, and petroleum are all imported from other states and nations. Iowa is currently developing programs to help us harness the power of green energy, the natural resources we have right here in our own staterenewable resources, such as solar energy, wind power, geothermal energy, biomass, and hydropower.
The State of Iowa is challenging its communities and citizens to develop and expand the use of the States renewable energy resources. Muscatine Power and Water is committed to helping Muscatine meet this challenge by offering our residential customers the opportunity to support the development of renewable energy right here in our own community. We have added photovoltaic arraysmore commonly known as solar panelsto our electric system
For as little as $3, $5, or $7 per monthjust pennies per dayyou can help support this vital effort. Cast your vote for renewable energy and a brighter future for our community and our children. Help make Muscatine a leading light in Iowas quest to reduce its dependence on imported energy. Together, we can make a real difference for our environment, our economy, and our security. |
Four Reasons You Should Support SOLAR MUSCATINE...
FACT #2: SOLAR ENERGY IS GOOD FOR OUR ECONOMY
Solar Energy is Green in Many Ways... |
Every dollar spent on importing fuels, whether into the country or into our state, is a dollar that the local economy loses. In contrast, renewable energy sources are developed locally. Dollars spent on renewable energy stay at home, creating more jobs and fostering economic growth. |
Currently, the U.S. manufactures 66% of the worlds photovoltaic systems. 70% of these systems are exported, bringing even more money into our economy. |
FACT #3: SOLAR ENERGY IS SECURE
Did You Know...? |
85% of the energy consumed in the United States comes from fossil fuels, which are limited in supply, affecting our national security. Today, the United States imports nearly 65% of the crude oil it consumes, Iowa imports 97% of the fuel it uses, and Muscatine imports 100% of the coal used to produce the electric energy it uses. For our own security, its time we become more self-reliant! |
Solar energy supports the reliability of the electric grid through distributed generation. MP&W, like most utility systems, features a single distant source of electric generation. Photovoltaic arrays offer a cost- effective source of peak-demand power, and in some cases can serve as a source of emergency standby power. |
FACT #4: SOLAR ENERGY IS THE FUTURE
Your Support Today Will Make a World of Difference Tomorrow |
This is not the first time Muscatine citizens have come together to plant the seeds of energy sources for future generations. Our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents had our future in mind when they built MP&Ws first electric generation unit back in 1922. Keep that tradition alive. Give for the future of Muscatine. |
