What
appliances qualify?
To learn more about energy efficient appliances, and for a
complete list of products that meet our rebate requirements,
visit Energy
Star's web site. Below is a complete list of our rebates
and appliances qualifications:
Air
Conditioners
Replacing your existing air conditioner with a new energy
efficient model could cut your cooling costs by 20 to 50 percent!
Air conditioner efficiency is rated by the SEER (Season Energy
Efficiency Ratio) for central air conditioners or the EER
(Energy Efficiency Ratio) for room air conditioners. A higher
rating indicates a more efficient air conditioner.

Dishwashers
Efficiency
of new dishwashers has improved drastically over the past
few years. Replacing your old dishwasher with a new energy
efficient model could save you up to 750 kWh per year, or
about $45.
Refrigerators
Efficiency of new refrigerators has improved drastically
over the past few years. Replacing your old refrigerator with
a new energy efficient model could save you up to 1,000 kWh
per year, or about $60.

New
Electric Ranges & Dryers
Certain
features on electric ranges and dryers affect their energy
efficiency. For instance, self-cleaning ovens are more efficient
because they contain more insulation. If you're purchasing
a new dryer, look for a model with a cool-down cycle and moisture
sensor controls. Both will help conserve energy and save you
money.

electric ranges and dryers are eligible for the
following rebates if they contain one or more of
the listed energy-saving features: |

Clothes
Washer
Up
to 90 percent of the cost of washing your clothes comes from
heating the water. That's why a front-loading washing machine
is such a good investment. It uses up to 60 percent less water
than a traditional top loading washing machine. A front-loading
washing machine rotates like your clothes dryer using only
a small amount of water, instead of using a vertical agitator
that turns back and forth. Standard washing machines can use
as much as 20 gallons of water per load, while front loading
machines use as little as four to five gallons, saving you
money on both water and water heating. Front loading washing
machines also clean your clothes better, have more room for
larger loads and have faster spin speeds so your clothes spend
less time in the dryer.
Electric
Water Heaters
Water
heaters are the second greatest energy consumers in the average
home. They account for 15 to 25 percent of the average household
energy budget. Water heater efficiency is based on the Energy
Factor, or EF, of the unit. A higher EF rating indicates a
more efficient water heater.
The new water heaters today are the most efficient on the market, resulting in a first year savings of $100 - $300 dollars and an annual savings of $150/year for years 2-10.

Compact
Fluorescent Bulbs
Compact fluorescent bulbs are an excellent energy
efficient alternative to incandescent lighting. Compact fluorescent
bulbs use about 70 percent less energy than standard incandescent
bulbs and last 10-13 times longer! That means you save money
on your energy bill. To maximize your savings, replace the
light bulbs you use most often with compact fluorescents.
Also consider replacing hard-to-reach bulbs with compact fluorescent
bulbs so you won't have to change them as often. To learn
more about compact fluorescent bulbs, click

Geoexchange - Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP)
Recently, Muscatine Power and Water (MP&W) increased its energy saving incentive program to include larger rebates for residents and business owners who install Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP) or geothermal heating units.
Geothermal heating/cooling uses the earth's geothermal heat. In the winter, it transfers usable heat from the ground or groundwater into the home. In the summer, it cools by reversing the process.
Homeowners who install a ground source heat pump enjoy 30% to 60% lower utility bills, lower maintenance costs and higher levels of comfort, year-round. Even though the cost of installation is greater for GSHP, the return on the investment can be realized within 5-10 years.
MP&W's GSHP incentive helps defray some of the cost of installation making geothermal energy a more economical heating choice. Consider a home with a calculated load 24,000 Btu's cooling and 50,000 Btu's heating. For a two speed system the maximum installed tonnage allowed would be four tons. MP&W's incentive is $300 per ton for 2-stage units and $150 per ton for 1-stage units.(for residential and commercial closed loop systems)
