MP&W offers rebates when you purchase electric appliances, air conditioners, and compact fluorescent bulbs that meet certain energy-efficient standards.
Electric Appliances and Compact Fluorescent Bulbs Rebate
Print the Residential Rebate Form and follow instructions. Send the completed rebate application along with your sales receipt(s) and Energy Guide. Rebate applications for purchases made in 2011 are due by March 31, 2012.
What appliances qualify?
A complete list of products that meet our rebate requirements is available at ENERGY STAR's website. Below is a complete list of our rebates and appliances qualifications.
Air Conditioners
Purchasing a new energy-efficient model could cut your cooling costs by 20 to 50 percent. Air conditioner efficiency is rated by the Season Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) for central air conditioners or the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) for room air conditioners. A higher rating indicates a more efficient air conditioner (only air conditioners with 14.0 rating qualify).
Rebates & Qualifications
$25 rebate room air conditioner central air conditioner
$150 rebate for SEER 14.0+
The yellow Energy Guide label with the EER or SEER rating must be sent in with the application to receive the rebate.
Dishwashers
Replacing your old dishwasher with a new energy-efficient model could save up to 750 kWh per year, or about $45.
Rebates & Qualifications
$50 rebate for any ENERGY STAR-labeled dishwasher
Refrigerators
Replacing your old refrigerator with a new energy-efficient model could save up to 1,000 kWh per year, or about $60.
Rebates & Qualifications
$50 rebate for any ENERGY STAR-labeled refrigerator
Note: The old refrigerator must be turned in to a participating dealer or the city of Muscatine. The recipient of the old refrigerator must sign the appliance application on the Residential Rebate Form to receive the rebate.
New Electric Ranges & Dryers
Certain features on electric ranges and dryers affect their energy efficiency. For instance, self-cleaning ovens are more efficient because they contain more insulation. If you're purchasing a new dryer, look for a model with a cool-down cycle and moisture sensor controls.
Rebates & Qualifications
$25 rebate – Dryer must have one or more: moisture sensor, cool-down cycle
$25 rebate – Range must have/be one or more: self-cleaning, small window, induction worktop, convection oven
Clothes Washer
Up to 90 percent of the cost of washing your clothes comes from heating the water. A front-loading washing machine uses up to 60 percent less water than a standard top-loading washing machine. Standard washing machines use as much as 20 gallons of water per load, while front-loading machines use as little as four to five gallons. Front-loading washing machines clean your clothes better, have more room for larger loads, and have faster spin speeds so clothes spend less time in the dryer.
Rebates & Qualifications
$50 rebate for ENERGY STAR-labeled washing machines
Electric Water Heaters
Water heaters are the second greatest energy consumers in the average home. They account for 15 to 25 percent of the average household energy budget. Water heater efficiency is based on the Energy Factor, or EF, of the unit. A higher EF rating indicates a more efficient water heater (water heaters must be 40 gallon+ and have an EF rating of .94+).
Today’s water heaters can save $100-$300 in their first year and $150 annually for years 2-10.
Rebates & Qualifications
$100 rebate for 40+ gallon, EF .94+ water heater
Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
Compact fluorescent light bulbs are an energy efficient alternative to incandescent lighting. Compact fluorescent bulbs use about 70 percent less energy and last 10-13 times longer. To maximize savings, replace the light bulbs you use most often and your hard-to-reach bulbs with compact fluorescents bulbs. See how the savings can add up.
Rebates & Qualifications
One-half of the pre-tax purchase price ( up to $2) of any compact fluorescent bulb rebate
GeoExchange – Ground-Source Heat Pump (GSHP)
Larger rebates are available for residents who install ground-source heat pumps (GSHP) or geothermal heating units.
Geothermal heating/cooling uses the earth's geothermal heat. In the winter, it transfers usable heat from the ground or groundwater into the home or business. In the summer, it cools by reversing the process. Homeowners who install a ground-source heat pump enjoy 30 to 60 percent lower utility bills, lower maintenance costs, and higher levels of comfort, year-round.
MP&W incentives help defray the cost of GSHP installation. For example, a home with a calculated load of 24,000 Btus cooling and 50,000 Btus heating has a two-speed system. The maximum installed tonnage allowed would be four tons. MP&W's incentive is $300 per ton for two-stage units and $150 per ton for one-stage units (for residential closed-loop systems).
Rebates & Qualifications
$300/ton (two-stage) and $150/ton (one-stage) rebate (residential rate = 0.059) – must be SEER 14.0+
