Recycle Your Fluorescent Lamps – It's the Law!
For decades, fluorescent lamps containing mercury have ended up in our wells, rivers, streams, lakes, and food chain. The EPA has ruled companies are responsible for recycling fluorescent lamps and other products containing mercury. Businesses are required by Iowa law to treat fluorescent bulbs as hazardous waste. Even if your fluorescent tubes have green end caps, or are low-mercury, they still contain mercury and must be recycled. Call the Muscatine Transfer Station at (563) 263-9698 for more details on how you can recycle.

Energy-Efficient Electric Motors
Replace any electric motor with a more energy efficient motor
$200 rebate per kW of demand reduction from changes in types of motor(s) used
Limit: $2,000 per account per year

GeoExchange – Ground-Source Heat Pump (GSHP)
Larger rebates are available for business owners who install ground-source heat pumps (GSHP) or GeoExchange heating units.
$300/ton (2-stage) and $150/ton (1-stage) rebate (commercial rate = 0.052) - Must be SEER 14.0+

Geothermal heating/cooling uses the earth's geothermal heat. In the winter, it transfers usable heat from the ground or groundwater into the business. In the summer, it cools by reversing the process. Businesses who install a ground-source heat pump enjoy 30% to 60% lower utility bills, lower maintenance costs and higher levels of comfort, year round.

MP&W incentives help defray the cost of GSHP installation. For example, a home with a calculated load 24,000 Btu's cooling and 50,000 Btu's heating has a two-speed system, the maximum installed tonnage allowed would be four tons. MP&W's incentive is $300 per ton for 2-stage units and $150 per ton for 1-stage units (for residential closed loop systems).
