Muscatine Power and Water (MP&W) is a customer-driven, municipal utility. We provide electric, water, and communications products and services. We have the largest power generating capacity of any municipal utility in the State of Iowa. We're headquartered in Muscatine, Iowa, an historic town of 23,000 located on the banks of the Mississippi River, twenty miles downstream from the Illinois/Iowa Quad Cities.
At MP&W, we exist to add value to our community and we’re proud of our role. We provide electricity to approximately 11,225* customers, and water to approximately 9,588* customers. We own and operate three coal-fired electric generating facilities with a combined nameplate capacity of 293.55 MW.
Excess electric capacity is sold to wholesale markets and other utilities across the nation. Our facilities for water production, treatment, and distribution pump an average of 28 million gallons of water a day. Our communications territory serves approximately 9,794* customers (varies by product – Cable TV & Internet).
(NOTE: Unlike the Electric Utility's service territory, the Communications and Water Utilities' service territories are not regulated by the Iowa Utilities Board, and are therefore somewhat larger.)
Our state-of-the-art communications services include a hybrid fiber coax (HFC) system that is the backbone for our communications utility. The HFC system is made up of fiber optic loops throughout Muscatine and coaxial cable connections to homes and businesses. Our products include MPW Digital TV, MPW Digital TV On Demand, MPW Digital TV SVOD, MPW Digital TV HD/DVR, MachLink high-speed Internet service (featuring cable modem, dial-up, DSL, home networking, and wireless access), and municipal area network (MAN) services.
